Formed as 2 North Midland Brigade Royal Field Artillery (TF) in February 1920. It was re-named 61 (North Midland Brigade Royal Field Artillery (TA) in 1921. It became 61 (North Midland) Field Brigade RA (TA) in June 1924. 61 (North Midland) Field Brigade RA (TA) was re-designated as 61 (North Midland) Field Regiment RA (TA) in November 1938 on a two battery basis. A third battery was raised in February 1941. 61 (North Midland) Field Regiment RA (TA) converted to 61 Super Heavy Regiment RA (TA) in December 1944. It went into suspended animation in January 1946 and was re-constituted as 261 (North Midland) Observation Regiment RA (TA) in January 1947.
