48 (Hampshire) Searchlight Regiment RA (TA) formed in August 1940 by the transfer of 48 (Hampshire) Anti-Aircraft Battalion Royal Engineers (TA) to the RA. The Regiment served in Anti-Aircraft Command in Southern England until its conversion in early 1945. 48 (Hampshire) Searchlight Regiment RA (TA) was converted to 636 Infantry Regiment RA in January 1945. It was re-constituted as 583 (Hampshire) (Mixed) Heavy Anti-Aircraft Regiment RA (TA) in January 1947.
