16 Light Anti-Aircraft Regiment RA (TA) was formed with three batteries in Kent, in December 1938. It moved to the Middle East in January 1942. After a short spell in Iraq, it served the next two years in The Levant. This period was with 8 Army apart from a brief spell with 9 Army. The Regiment was re-designated as 16 Holding Regiment RA (TA) in June 1944 (this was a different unit to 16 Holding Regiment RA). It went into suspended animation in November 1944. 16 Light Anti-Aircraft Regiment RA (TA) was re-constituted as 516 (Mixed) Light Anti-Aircraft/Searchlight Regiment RA (TA) in January 1947.
