1 Light Anti-Aircraft Regiment RA was formed at the RA Depot in Woolwich in May 1940 with three batteries. It moved to North Africa in 1941 supporting 7 Armoured Division. Early 1942 it moved to protect Suez, Cairo and the canal. In 1945 it went to Palestine in support of 1 Infantry Division. 1 Light Anti-Aircraft Regiment RA was re-designated in April 1947 as 80 Light Anti-Aircraft Regiment RA.
