The unit was formed in August 1920 as the 6 (Kent) Army Brigade Royal Field Artillery (TF). It was formed by the conversion of the Royal East Kent Yeomanry (TF) and the West Kent Yeomanry (TF). In 1921 it became 97 (Kent Yeomanry) Brigade RFA (TA). It became 97 (Kent Yeomanry) (Army) Field Brigade RA (TA) in June 1924. The Regiment was re-designated 97 (Kent Yeomanry) Field Regiment RA (TA) from 97 Field Brigade in November 1938 on a two battery basis. A third battery was raised in March 1941. The 97 (Kent Yeomanry) Field Regiment RA (TA) was placed in suspended animation in December 1945 and reconstituted in January 1947 as 297 (Kent Yeomanry) Light Anti-Aircraft Regiment RA(TA).
