The Brigade was formed as 3 Welsh Brigade RFA (TF) in February 1920 at Newport. In 1921 it became 83 (Welsh) Brigade Royal Field Artillery (TF). It changed title again in June 1924 to 83 (Welsh) Field Brigade RA (TA). 83 (Welsh) Field Brigade was re-designated 83 (Welsh) Field Regiment RA (TA) in November 1938 with two batteries. In February 1941 a third battery was formed. Post war 83 (Welsh) Field Regiment RA (TA) went into suspended animation in June 1946 and was re-constituted as 283 (Welsh) Field Regiment RA (TA) in January 1947.
