Formed as 4 Northumbrian Brigade RFA (TF) in February 1920. It became 74 (Northumbrian ) Brigade RFA (TA) in 1921. Another change in title came in June 1924 when it became 74 (Northumbrian Field Brigade RA (TA). The Regiment was re-designated 74 (Northumbrian) Field Regiment RA (TA) from 74 Field Brigade in November 1938 on a two battery basis. A third battery was raised in April 1942. 293 Battery disbanded due to casualties in August 1942 and was replaced by 440 Battery in May 1943. 74 (Northumbrian) Field Regiment RA (TA) was placed in suspended animation in December 1946 and reconstituted in January 1947 as 274 (Northumbrian) Field Regiment RA (TA).
