The unit was formed as 3 West Riding Brigade Royal Field Artillery (TF) in February 1920. It became 71 (West Riding) Brigade RFA (TA) in 1921. The Brigade changed title again in June 1924, becoming 71 Field Brigade Royal Artillery (TA). 71 Field Brigade RA (TA) was re-designated 71 (West Riding) Field Regiment RA (TA) in November 1938 with two batteries. In February 1941 a third battery was formed. Post war 71 (West Riding) Field Regiment RA (TA) went into suspended animation in March 1946 and was re-constituted as 271 (West Riding) Field Regiment RA (TA) in January 1947.
