Originally formed as 34 Brigade-Division in 1900. In 1903 it became 34 Brigade Royal Field Artillery. The Brigade was re-designated as 24 Brigade Royal Field Artillery in November 1922. It became 24 Field Brigade RA in June 1924. 24 Field Regiment RA was re-designated from 24 Field Brigade in May 1938 on a two battery basis. It re-organised as three batteries in November 1940. 24 Field Regiment RA converted to 24 Anti-Tank Regiment RA in November 1946. The Regiment was re-designated 49 Anti-Tank Regiment RA in April 1947.
