The unit formed in 1900 as 23 Brigade-Division Royal Field Artillery becoming 23 Brigade Royal Field Artillery in 1903. The Brigade was re-designated as 23 Field Brigade RA in June 1924. In May 1938, 23 Field Regiment RA was re-designated from 23 Field Brigade on a two battery basis. This was done by linking the four existing batteries. It re-organised as three batteries in February 1941, with 60, 89 & 90 Batteries. 100 Battery was converted to anti-tank. Post war 23 Field Regiment RA was re-designated 64 Training Regiment RA in April 1947.
