177 Field Regiment RA was formed from 14 Defence Regiment RA in January 1942 at Porthcawl with three batteries. In November it became part of 33 Guards Independent Infantry Brigade in London District. 177 Field Regiment RA was disbanded in March 1944 at Retford to re-form RHQ 25 Field Regiment RA.
