176 Field Regiment RA was formed from 11 Defence Regiment RA in January 1942 with three batteries. The Regiment had a number of batteries come and go and by July 1943 it had four batteries. By December 1942 it was a Reserve unit training replacements for units on active service. It had replaced 175 Field Regiment in 77 Division. In December 1943 it became a Holding unit for personnel temporarily unattached to any unit. 176 Field Regiment RA was disbanded in March 1946.
