172 Field Regiment RA was formed from 3 Defence Regiment RA in January 1942 with three batteries. The batteries were converted from three Defence Batteries. The Regiment moved to Tunisia where 155 Battery at Sidi Nsir had all its guns destroyed. Only 9 men from the Battery returned to the Regiment. As a result the C.O. designed and had made locally the “Beja Badge” to commerate the action of 155 Battery. Less than 200 of these badges were made. 172 Field Regiment RA with its batteries was disbanded in November 1945.
