163 Field Regiment RA was formed in June 1942 at Quoydandy, Kirkwall, Orkneys with three batteries from disbanding units. The batteries were formed from 517 Independent Light Battery (P Battery), 450 Independent Field Battery (Q Battery) and fourteen Mobile Defence Troops (R Battery). It was disbanded in March 1944 at Kirkintillock, Lenzie.
