159 Field Regiment RA was formed in April 1941 with two batteries. They were made up from Troops from four different Field Regiments. A third battery was formed in February 1943. The Regiment served for 2 years in Iraq and Syria as part of PAIFORCE. On return to India they converted to the Airborne role. 159 Field Regiment RA converted to 159 Parachute Light Regiment RA in November 1944 at Secunderabad. It was re-designated 87 Parachute Light Regiment RA in April 1947.
