541 Coast Regiment RA was formed as 1 Coast Artillery Group RA at Lerwick with four batteries, in October 1940. It was re-designated 541 Coast Regiment RA in June 1941. The Regiment was disbanded in June 1945 with 283 Battery placed in suspended animation and 369 Battery joining 538 Coast Regiment RA(TA). Shetland’s coast guns never fired in anger.
