522 (Dorsetshire) Coast Regiment RA (TA) was formed from part of the Dorsetshire Heavy Regiment RA (TA), in July 1940. RHQ and the Fire Command were converted to 618 Infantry Regiment RA (TA) in January 1945. 618 Regiment was placed in suspended animation in January 1946 and 522 (Dorsetshire) Coast Regiment RA (TA) was reconstituted as 421 (Dorset) Coast Regiment RA (TA) in January 1947.
