57 (East Surrey) Anti-Tank Regiment RA (TA) was converted from 5th Battalion The East Surrey Regiment with four batteries in November 1938. The Regiment fought with the BEF in 1940. it moved to the Middle East in July 1942 and to Italy in September 1943. The Regiment was put in suspended animation in December 1946. In January 1947, 57 (East Surrey) Anti-Tank Regiment RA (TA) was re-constituted as 381 (East Surrey) Anti-Tank Regiment RA (TA).
