106 Anti-Aircraft Brigade

106 Anti-Aircraft Brigade was re-numbered from 53 AA Brigade at Formby in May 1943. The Brigade landed in Normandy in June 1944 on D+4 for airfield defence. In August they were switched to 2 Army command in their direct support of the advance to the Seine. By September the Brigade was following 2 Army’s move to Brussels & Antwerp.

In December they were supporting 12 & 30 Corps in Belgium containing the breakthrough in the Ardennes. They took part in Operation Veritable in February 1945, clearing the Reichswald. They were also involved in Operation Plunder in March 1945, the crossing of the Rhine. After a sucessful crossing the Brigade guarded the bridges at Rees. By April 1945 the Brigade was responsible for the control of all units entering Hamburg. In May they moved into Schwerin as occupation troops. 106 Anti-Aircraft Brigade disbanded in April 1946.
