1 Survey Regiment RA was formed in May 1939 at Larkhill by splitting 1 Survey Battery into A & B Batteries. In March 1945 a third battery was added by conversion of 20 Field Radar Battery into 20 Survey Battery. In February 1946 the Regiment was re-organised into two Groups, a Survey Group with 41 & 42 Batteries and a Location Group with 20 & 63 Batteries. 1 Survey Regiment RA was re-designated 94 Observation Regiment RA in April 1947.
