2 Heavy Anti-Aircraft Regiment Royal Malta Artillery was raised at Paceville in December 1939 with three batteries. In January 1940, the Regiment had two gun batteries and a Searchlight Battery. It reverted to 3 gun batteries in November the same year. In August 1945 it was re-designated as 2 Anti-Aircraft (Composite) Regiment Royal Malta Artillery.
