In September 1939, 4 Brigade Royal Horse Artillery was re-organised as 4 Regiment Royal Horse Artillery with three batteries but was reduced to two batteries in November. In October 1941 a third battery was formed. The Regiment was re-organised in an anti-tank role with 7 Armoured Division in November 1946.
