96 Anti-Aircraft Regiment RA (TA) was formed in West Yorkshire in April 1939. It was re-designated as 96 Heavy Anti-Aircraft Regiment RA (TA) in June 1940. The Regiment served in Yorkshire with Anti-Aircraft Command until May 1942. In October 1942 it moved to Egypt where it spent the remainder of the war. It was placed in suspended animation in June 1944. 96 Heavy Anti-Aircraft Regiment RA (TA) was reconstituted as 496 (M) Heavy Anti-Aircraft Regiment RA (TA) in January 1947.
