78 (1st East Anglian) Anti-Aircraft Brigade RA (TA) was formed in November 1938 by conversion of 84 (1st East Anglian) Field Brigade RA (TA). It was re-designated as 78 (Welsh) Anti-Aircraft Regiment in January 1939. In June 1940 it became 78 (1st East Anglian) Heavy Anti-Aircraft Regiment RA (TA). It served in the UK, Middle east and Italy. The Regiment was placed in suspended animation in December 1944. 78 (1st East Anglian) Heavy Anti-Aircraft Regiment RA (TA) was reconstituted as 284 (1st East Anglian) (M) Heavy Anti-Aircraft Regiment RA (TA) in January 1947.
