12 Heavy Anti-Aircraft Regiment RA was formed at Woolwich in February 1941. It served in Iceland before returning to the UK and joining Anti-Aircraft Command. The Regiment was re-designated as 177 Heavy Anti-Aircraft Regiment RA(TA) in May 1944. 4 and 18 Batteries were re-numbered as 598 and 600 Batteries. At the same time, 177 Heavy Anti-Aircraft Regiment RA(TA) was re-designated as 12 Heavy Anti-Aircraft Regiment RA with 598 and 600 Batteries being re-numbered 4 and 18 Batteries. The Regiment was re-designated as 70 Heavy Anti-Aircraft Regiment RA in April 1947.
