Army Groups Royal Artillery

AGRAs, or Army Groups Royal Artillery, were British Army & Commonwealth formations of various artillery regiments, usually consisting of numbers of Field and Medium units. Within various AGRAs, there were also small numbers of Heavy & Super Heavy regiments. Anti-Tank Regiments were not normally assigned to AGRAs.

Despite their name, AGRAs were usually allotted to military Corps formations but served under Allied armies as part of this single command. They were initially created in 1942 after Operation BUMPER, an anti-invasion excercise led by Montgomery, which also improved the creation and use of fire plans within the Royal Artillery.

During the war, various AGRA formations were created in the Royal Artillery, while there were also Canadian and Polish artillery groups, of which some British units served within.
