59 (Newfoundland) Heavy Regiment RA was formed at Ifield, Crawley in June 1940 from a cadre from 57 (Newfoundland) Heavy Regiment RA. After being employed on coastal defence and providing live firing for various exercises, the Regiment went to Normandy on 5 July 1944. After involvement with the breakout from Caen and the Falaise Pocket, they moved through France, Belgium, Holland and Germany. The Regiment ended its war on the River Elbe in Germany, shelling Hamburg. 59 (Newfoundland) Heavy Regiment RA was disbanded in August 1945 at Saffron Walden.
