61 (North Midland) Super Heavy Regiment RA (TA)

61 (North Midland) Super Heavy Regiment RA (TA) was formed in December 1944 from 61 Field Regiment with three batteries. The Regiment was placed in suspended animation in January 1946 and reconstituted as 261 (North Midland) Observation Regiment RA(TA).

54 Super Heavy Regiment RA

54 Super Heavy Regiment RA was formed in February 1945 from 54 Heavy Regiment with four batteries. The Regiment was disbanded in September 1945. 14 Battery to suspended animation as 14 Coast Battery RA.

2 Super Heavy Regiment RA

2 Super Heavy Regiment RA was formed in November 1940 at Addisham, Canterbury with five batteries. The Regiment was disbanded in January 1945 at Bishopsbourne, Kent with 16 Battery becoming independent.

1 Super Heavy Regiment RA

1 Super Heavy Regiment RA was formed in November 1940 at Derby Road, Ipswich with three batteries. In December 1941 the batteries became independent and RHQ was disbanded.

Super Heavy Regiments

In September 1939 there were no Super Heavy Regiments just 3 Independent Super Heavy Batteries, 1st, 2nd & 3rd. These went to France with the British Expeditionary Force and were lost during the retreat.
Two batteries had 9.2 inch Rail Guns and the third, tractor drawn 12 inch Mk IV Howitzers.

The first three Super Heavy Regiments were formed in November 1940.

The Royal Artillery 1939-45
