4 Field Regiment RA

The Regiment was re-designated as 4 Field Regiment RA from 4 Field Brigade in May 1938. It was organised as a two battery Regiment in Egypt in October 1939. The Regiment subsequently changed to a three battery set up in May 1942. Post war, 4 Field Regiment RA became 26 Field Regiment RA in April 1947.

6 Field Regiment RA

The Regiment was re-designated 6 Field Regiment RA from 6 Field Brigade in May 1938. Prior to this, it had been 6 Brigade Royal Field Artillery since 1903. It changed its title from Royal Field Artillery to Royal Artillery in June 1924. The Regiment was reduced to a cadre in March 1939 in India and disbanded in July 1940 at Mhow. It was re-formed at Maidstone in January 1943 from personnel from 189 Field Regiment RA. It subsequently served in NW Europe from June 1944 with both 2 Army and 3 Infantry Division. By the end of the war the Regiment were on garrison duties in the Harburg area. Post war the 6 Field Regiment RA was re-designated as 67 Training Regiment RA in April 1947.

A Field (Anti-Tank) Regiment RA

Formed in May 1940 from the RA Instructional Wing, to support 23 Division who had no artillery. Personnel were drawn from the RA Base Depot. Because of a lack of stores including sights, the unit acted in an anti-tank role firing over open sights. They were evacuated from Dunkirk and disbanded in June 1940.

1940 12 x 18/25 pdr, 5 x 18 pdr (various Marks), 2 x 4.5 inch Howitzers

 

To support 23 Division who had no artillery.

Manned by officers and men from RA Base Depot, equipped with an assortment of guns towed by whatever trucks were available.

Fought from Cambrai Canal to La Couronne under various Divisional commands. Due to a total lack of stores including gun sights, was deployed in an anti-tank role firing over open sights.

Evacuated from Dunkirk and disbanded 26 Jun 40.

 

 

208 Field Regiment RA

208 Field Regiment RA was formed in April 1945 from RHQ 88 Medium Regiment with three batteries. It was re-designated as 72 Field Regiment in April 1947.

200 Field Regiment RA

200 Field Regiment RA was formed as “A” Jewish Field Regiment in December 1944 with three batteries. The term “Jewish” was disallowed because of the large number of non-Jewish personnel and it was re-designated as 200 Field Regiment. It was disbanded in May 1946.

195 Field Regiment RA

195 Field Regiment RA was formed in January 1943 with eight batteries. By mid 1943 this dropped to four batteries with another “Holding” battery added in November 1944. It was disbanded in January 1946.
